CITY Marians will tackle Devonport at McKenna Park, in Burnie, at 1.30pm in a showdown to win the right to play Launceston City in next week’s grand final.
City Marians have been red-hot most of the season having only had a few minor glitches over the season.
Devonport came from a shaky beginning to steam home in time for finals, with a number of strong wins and good hard morale- boosting victories.
City Marians have had a two pronged attack all season, relying heavily on Brooke Clarke and Petrina Birtwistle to bring home the points, however, Devonport has spread the load across a number of players.
Stacy Groves and Jackie Tollard will rudder the ship, holding down important jobs for the Marians.
Monique Grundy and Lauren Bonney will be popping up too, causing headaches for the Devonport defenders.
Jenna Kenworthy will be a player to keep an eye on, coming in to form at the pointy end of the season.
Hannah Sealby and Kym Clark will be the backbone for Devonport, their ability to maintain composure under pressure will be vital to keep their younger team-mates focused.
Amanda Von Schill and Rachel Martin have been in the action recently, both are dangerous in front of goals.
Devonport has less offensive strike power, having scored 35 goals for the season compared to City Marians who have scored 65.
However, defensively, Devonport has conceded 19 goals for the season, and City has let through 27.
The main intrigue of the match will be whether Devonport’s tight- fisted defence will be able to hold City Marian’s free flowing attack.
The new Burnie turf is likely to favour City Marians offensive style of play, and will place great pressure on the usually resolute defence of Devonport.
If Devonport can withstand the initial waves of attack from Marians, it should consider itself a good chance, but its lesser ability to finish in front of goals could be its downfall.
With two very different styles of play, this game will be fast-paced and physical, with neither team willing to back down.
Will it be the fast and furious City Marians or the determined and structured Devonport?
Prediction: City Marians to win, 3-1.
