What a pity local fans had to travel to Melbourne to watch the Bendigo Thunder women’s football team play finals football in the North West Division of the Victorian Women’s League.

One would think that being undefeated on top of the ladder would earn the team the right to host a final on home soil. But no. It seems all women’s football finals have to be played in Melbourne.

This unwritten policy of AFL Victoria and the Victorian Women’s Football League needs to change.

Why should all the finals be played at Coburg when none of the competing teams have any connection with the place?

Minister for Sport Hugh Delahunty and Bendigo mayor Alec Sandner regularly promote Bendigo’s capacity to host major sporting events.

It’s a pity the AFL and the VWFL don’t share the same sentiment.
