As Mark Brightwell and Cohan Banfield prepare to bring the South Coast surfing community together for the global premier of RAW at Wollongong Town Hall, the production they spent two years making is attracting interest from festivals in the United States, Ireland, England and Germany.

RAW was only completed three weeks ago but Brightwell said large production companies were already knocking on the duo’s door offering them the opportunity to work with the best equipment.

He said RAW had come a long way from a small idea he had had after graduating from university two years ago.

“I wanted to combine my passion for the ocean and my expertise in film and television,” he said.

Brightwell had originally wanted to do a film on the great surfing culture on the South Coast, but soon started following surfers around the world.

When he and Banfield teamed up, the project grew to become a showcase of surfing action from Australia to Hawaii and Indonesia.

“The South Coast was a great place to start … because it has everything a surfer looks for in waves,” Brightwell said.

He said making the feature film would not have been possible without the sponsorship of companies such as Sanuk, Brixton, Penny Australia and Skipp Surfboards.

He said he was excited for the Wollongong surfboard manufacturer, which would now get international exposure through the movie.

The film is being distributed in Australia by Garage Entertainment and overseas by Xtreme Video and The Orchard to physical and digital platforms.

Tickets to the worldwide premiere of RAW next Friday are available on the www.rawthemovie南京夜网 website and from Wollongong Town Hall.

Gerringong professional surfer Dean Bowen, 21, said his family and friends would see him in action on local beaches and in Tahiti.

“I have watched the film and it’s as a good as it gets. The surfing in it is incredible.”
